Summary

The project RISK-IDENT develops and applies a new technique to identify aquatic-relevant but so far unknown anthropogenic trace contaminants and transformation products.

Selected substances are tested for their persistence, ecotoxicological effect, mobility and raw water relevance. Furthermore a new method for an efficient and energy-saving elimination of trace contaminants during waste water treatment will be tested (fourth treatment stage). Instruction guidelines for the identification and risk management of unknown trace contaminants as well as a database of potential and identified anthropogenic trace contaminants (“STOFF-IDENT”) will be provided to the expert audience. The results also will be edited target group appropriate to municipalities, citizens and economy. The publications shall not only raise the awareness for a responsible handling of chemicals, but also serve as a basis for decisions and new education concepts.
