WP 5 Mobility

The first run of the aquifer soil columns was conducted with the pharmaceuticals Carbamazepin (CBZ), Di-hydroxy-Carbamazepin (DiOH-CBZ), Metoprolol, α-Hydroxymetoprolol as well as Sulfamethoxazol (SMX) and N4-Acetyl-Sulfamethoxazol (N4-Acetyl-SMX).

It could be validated that the human metabolite N4-Acetyl-SMX transformes back to its parent substance under aerobic conditions. Under anaerobic conditions both substances were eliminated quantitatively. Metoprolol and α-Hydroxymetoprolol were degraded equally in both systems, likewise CBZ, whereas DiOH-CBZ was eliminated better under aerobic than under anaerobic conditions.
